Earnie speaks English, Japanese (日本語), Simplified Chinese (简体中文), French (Français), German (Deutsch) and Korean (한국어). Each member chooses their own language; it does not change what anyone else sees.

How Earnie picks a language

Until you choose, Earnie follows your browser’s language. If your browser asks for a language Earnie does not offer, Earnie uses English. A browser set to Traditional Chinese gets its next preferred language, or English, rather than Simplified Chinese.

Choosing your language

  1. Open the user menu, top right.
  2. Point to Language.
  3. Select a language. Each one is listed in its own name, so you can find yours whatever language the page is in.
Earnie saves the choice on your profile. It applies on every device you sign in from, and stays until you change it. Browser default forgets the choice and follows your browser again. Before you sign in, the language button on the sign-in screen changes the language for that browser only. Once you sign in, a language saved on your profile takes over.

What stays in English

Only Earnie’s own words are translated. What your team and your tools wrote stays as it was: project and component names, policy names, comments, licence and vulnerability identifiers. These are also in English:
  • the text of exported reports and SBOMs;
  • emails from Earnie;
  • comments and checks Earnie posts on pull requests and merge requests;
  • webhook, Slack and Microsoft Teams messages.
The Japanese, Chinese, French, German and Korean translations are new. If a term reads wrong in your language, tell your SCANOSS contact.
